Through a cobbled archway on High Street, you come to the entrance of a coaching inn built in the early 18th Century. As you walk in, it feels quite natural that people have been doing this for centuries. The attentive service you receive from our staff, however, leaves you in no doubt that you are now in the present. Whether you hope for quick service for a business lunch or a more relaxed pace for dinner with friends, you will not be disappointed. On a fine day, you can sit in our large garden where there is a children’s play area. If you are looking for a place to stay, why not book in as the whole hotel is steeped in history.
Pub and Restaurant
Our magnificent oak-beamed bar is an ideal place to relax and enjoy time with friends or family. With its open fire and traditional period features, it harks back to an era when the George & Dragon Hotel was the hub of the community, and many of the local residents and societies still meet here, mingling with our guests and friendly staff.
The bar itself serves four well-kept real ales on handpull pumps, with local brews and a regularly changing guest beer, as well as lagers and ciders on draught. We also have an excellent wine list to complement any of our menu choices, with malt whiskies and premium spirits and liqueurs for an after dinner accompaniment or a warming treat in the evening. We also serve a range of liqueur coffees and speciality hot drinks, as well as a traditional soft drink selection.
Our seasonal á la carte menu is served both at lunchtimes and in the evening, offering a wide range of fresh, home cooked meals with a bias towards local and organic produce. At lunchtimes, a light menu with sandwiches and hearty ploughman’s lunches is available. Try our excellent Chef’s Specials for a selection of meals that are prepared daily for your enjoyment. All dishes can be enjoyed with a recommendation from our wine list, including champagnes and sparkling wines for those special occasions.
We have a range of characterful and comfortable bedrooms available for guests, including some rooms with Four-Poster beds. All of our bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and televisions, as well as direct-dial telephones and tea and coffee making facilities. We have a range of room types for all guests – whether you are travelling alone or with company, we have a room to fulfil your expectations. Single occupants, couples and families are all welcome, with a range of room rates, including offers for weekend or long-term visits. Feel free to contact the hotel directly to discuss any requirements you may have, and we will do our best to ensure you have the room most suited to your needs. Our hotel is also pet-friendly, so those wishing to take advantage of the wonderful Chiltern Hills walking opportunities can do so with their loyal four-legged friends!
